A Tentacruel lurks in the waters, expecting opposition.

"So these are safe, huh?" Adrian remains unconvinced as to the safety of the platform he stands upon, staring below into the crystal clear coastal waters. The further they float out to sea, the more room there is for their pokemon to maneuver, though he becomes increasingly paranoid of what lurks in the depths. As well as staying skeptical of whether these platforms couldn't be upended by a little splashing.

"Totally safe!" she said cheerily as she was on a platform opposite from him "As long as we dont use like explosion or self destruct or something else! But I doubt it would happen. If anything my gardevoir's on standby to keep us safe with teleport or whatever." she says to reassure him they'd be fine but she had a feeling it would do little to ease his worries. So time for a distraction!

Melody released her pokeball into the water and out came a corsola that immediately jumped into the water from the platform and sank down into the ocean below the two. "Ok ready?" she said as the referee blew the whistle for both trainers to begin. "Corsola! Use harden!" as corsola tucked her arms in and coral grew on it's body to form a defensive layer on it's body

"Alright then..." If she says so. Melody seemed unfazed, going so far as to take the initiative, beginning the battle in earnest. Yet it was a modest beginning for their battle, with Corsola executing a hardening power to raise its defenses. It wasn't much, but he wasn't one to underestimate a gym leader, even if she acted like a peppy preteen...

"Tentacruel, wrap around it..." Eightfold tendrils snaked through the waters, wresting the stationary Corsola in its grasp, though at first it would not seem to prove threatening. The man-o-war's hook-like appendage seemed to tap against the hardened exterior as if trying to pry open sunken treasure, but finding no purchase against the stony coral carapace. But it couldn't free itself, either.

Ah there it was! A tentacruel huh? Interesting choice. No matter! Melody could handle a tentacruel no problem! Tentracruel's tendrils wrapped around corsola's tiny pink body, it freaked out at first before melody spoke to it "Calm down corsola! Remember what we talked about!" Corsola felt encouraged by her words and took in a deep breath of water and refocused it's mind. [break][break]

"Perfect! Now quickly use power gem and break out of his grip!" [break][break]

Corsola's body begins to shine as a ball of light forms on it's forehead similar to the light of a gemstone and blasts into tentacruel's body.

"Don't think it'll be that easy," Adrian mutters at Melody's optimism, apprising himself of the situation. Though Tentacruel writhes in anguish at the retaliatory strike, its swathe of tentacles remain snared around the Corsola's diminutive stature. For now.

"Use Rapid Spin to disorient it," It begins to pivot within the water, accelerating before it reaches peak velocity; it may have been a halfway decent plan, too, if Corsola hadn't managed to slip through its grasp during the violent flailing. "Drat, keep on it!"

Tentacruel immediately pursues the careening Corsola's silhouette. Their platforms rise and fall with the forming waves, giving rise to Adrian's warranted concern.

Corsola was spun wildly in tentracruel's grip, so much so the power gem seemingly flew around everywhere instead and caused some damage to the underwater area and destroyed some of it. Melody lowered her center of gravity and bent her knees, easily adjusting to the waves sudden movements as she was very used to doing on a boat. [break][break]

She stayed calm, those moves probably didn't do too much damage to corsola thanks to that earlier harden. She called out her next order "Corsola you got this! Use earth power before he gets too close again!" she orders as corsola waves her hands up and down as a heat vent opens up and sprays rock debris and heated water at tentacruel to try and deal some damage.

A thermal vent opens up beneath the water's surface, spewing slag in Tentacruel's face, causing it to recoil in its pursuit and lose sight of the Corsola in the billowing smokescreen. All across its membrane Tentacruel sports bleeding sores of liquid ooze, provoking it in a fit of anguished rage. Swiping blindly through the murk, it razed the reef where it struck, sending bits of coral and endangered marine life into the abyss.

"Tentacruel, Sludge Wave!" While neither of them could see through the murk, that didn't mean they'd have to. Expelling a toxic secretion, Tentacruel spews a wave of poisonous sludge through the waters, tainting them. The toxins saturate the water, rendering it inhospitable until it dissipated, adding to the reef's damages.

'This tentacruel has some serious rage issues..' she thought to herself as she watched the pokemon battle fiercely against her corsola. She had to at least admit that she admired the determination it had to please it's trainer. Or was it to make Adrian happy? [break][break]

Oh no! The reef! Melody was worried about the damage to the environment that the poison would cause to it. She had to try and contain it as best as she could so. "No! Corsola! Mirror coat! Quickly!" she calls out as corsola jumps off a rock to give herself momentum and barrel towards the center of interest. [break][break]

Corsola preps the mirror coat as her body is covered in a glass like shine, at first the poison seems to damage corsola but not for very long. Corsola raises her nubs and gives an angry look at tentacruel as the poison is launched back towards her opponent as she shouts her own name at it.

Fuck. Adrian knew where things were headed.

Shielding his eyes from the imminent blowback, a sudden surging force expelled from the Corsola backfired in Tentacruel's face, adding insult to injury and forcing Adrian's raft platform to shift in the tumultuous waves. Even as the waters settled and grew calm, the undertow grabbed at the base of his platform, causing him to stumble to his knees momentarily. All in all, he still fared better than Tentacruel.

"Tentacruel, pull yourself together; Aqua Ring!" It was their only real recourse, but if they couldn't attack without it being thrown back twofold, what could they do?

In the end, he can only regret not training his Tentacruel more while he curses bitterly, trying to decide on his next move. Maybe if he knew a couple different moves...

Both melody and Corsola were glad to see that their attack was effective in stopping the tentacruel's sludgewave from wrecking the natural environment (despite the fact she harmed it with earth power herself). However they also both realized at the same time that from that sludge wave making contact with Corsola that Tentacruel managed to do a lot more than they initially thought. The sludge wave managed to POISON Corsola. [break][break]

That was a set back but Corsola could handle this on her own! "Corsola, try to power through it! Let your natural cure take care of it!" she calls out to her pokemon as corsola grits her teeth and sets her sights back on tentracruel. "Don't let them fully heal! Bubble beam!" she shouts as corsola sends a wave of bubbles in an condensed beam at Tentacruel to TRY and stop it from healing.

"HEX!" Adrian shouted in a desperate measure to turn the tide.

Its two bulbous spheres of scarlet began to glint with a sinister hue even through the murk as Tentacruel began to channel the very spirit of malice, profaning Corsola with an accursed magick that festered where Corsola's poisoned sores revealed themselves, hindering it further. Raking, lashing and biting at every inch of exposed flesh like a cornered rat, its tendrils flailed in a frantic futility to grasp the Corsola.

For all its efforts, an array of bubbles still pelted its permeable membrane, causing Tentacruel grief and mitigating its rejuvenating energies. Bummer.

The hex managed to find it's mark as the poison in corsola's body in combination with hex added an extra layer of excruciating pain. Corsola gritted her teeth further as a inky purple mist started to spread and dissipate from it's body as Natural cure began to filter out the poison. "Nice combo! Too bad I had an answer for it!" she said with a little grin on her face as that thing she totally didn't plan worked out pretty well. [break][break]

"Corsola! Use Earth power again! Launch that slag!" she orders as more heat vents open up launching slag at tentacruel once again as Melody wanted to take advantage of tentacruel's weakness to ground attacks.

"Yeah, yeah," Adrian muttered, showing his annoyance.

Corsola would have recovered from the unsightly blistering, its NATURAL CURE being the ultimate remedy. Son of a bitch... It wasn't like him to concede victory so early, but no matter how Adrian added it up, he was coming up short for answers.

It was just a bad matchup. Even so, he was not resigned to his loss just yet.

"Tentacruel, counter with BRINE!" From the nozzle-like claw protruding from its otherwise squishy exterior, the jagged hook adjusted until the tip pointed towards the opening vents, before directing the surging ocean waters around them into the forming gaps in the earth's crust. With the waters under Tentacruel's influence, the impact was mitigated and they continued the battle in quite the unsightly way; forcing Tentacruel to push itself through physical harm for the sake of its trainer's pride.

One simply couldn't deny that it yielded results watching as Tentacruel fighting tooth and nail, holding its own despite the adverse nature of the engagement.

Tentacruel seemed preoccupied with the earth power and tried to use brine to stop it. Melody wondered if she should take the obvious route of hitting tentacruel while it was wide open but melody thought that it wasn't a very sportsman like tactic so she instead chose to bolster herself.[break][break]

"Recover your health corsola!"she calls out as Corsola takes in minerals in the water and absorbs them to restore it's rocky body. [break][break]

Melody did admire the fact that tentacruel was pushing itself so hard but she wondered where such devotion came from, she couldn't tell so far honestly. But one thing was entirely clear, this thing was going to go down fucking swinging and melody had to play the long game to try and survive it's onslaught of attacks.
